The End (or is it?) Posted: Avitus @ Tue Jun 03, 2008 2:16 pm
Lost Chapter 05/05/05 - 02/06/08

Posts like these are the ones you spend a few days thinking about, trying to fit into words what is very probably impossible to fit into words.

How do you sum up the last 3 years in a mere post? I don't know.

However for the sake of not letting anyone hanging, I'll just write what's on my mind rather than try to formulate a poetic masterpiece, here goes: Yes. Since yesterday, the Earthen Ring raiding guild Lost Chapter is no more. It is with deep sadness that I confirm this.

Why? What happened?

Well, it's hard to nail it down to any single event, but suffice it to say there's only that many "last straws" you can take before you decide it's probably for the best to let it go.
Many things you can't blame on anyone. People leaving for RL, whether it's jobs, family, getting married, getting a baby, getting bored of WoW or a mixture of all of this.

Other things can definitely be pointed at some people however, those who decided they will not take any responsibility, not log on when we need them, dick around when we need them to focus in a raid and still somehow expect the guild to be there when they want it to be. Those who care enough about their own personal benefit to show up every Wednesday to do the farm and collect the epixx, but vanish for the rest of the week when it matters.

WoW is a game not a job. Yes. However your obligations to the people that depend on you day by day are very real, no different than being part of a football club or any group hobby you do at any proficient level. It comes down to a fundamental principle of respect: You want to have a fun guild to log on to? You want this to continue? Then pay your part into making it work. When 24 other people depend on you to be there, be there if you can and if you can't, at the very least have the decency to let us know or step aside for us to get someone else.

Then again, there's some gray areas for each of us to judge where they fit in the above two categories... a seemingly unreal amount of "my PC broke lolz" and "my connection dead" the last few months, not for days but weeks and months, coming back later to ask "hey so what happened to the guild"? How hard is it to get your stuff fixed? Things that mysteriously didn't seem to happen much when we were farming Black Temple for about half a year.

To try to keep it simple, it was just not worth it in the end.

From day 1, Lost Chapter was about playing at a high level and having fun doing it. Why do people try to invite friends rather than "pug" games? It's the same principle, but applied on a higher level. We tried to get the best we can find under one roof in order to have the best game experience.

When motivation hits rock bottom, people act like they don't want to be here and you literally have to plead with people to do their thing, the guilds goals are not being followed anymore and there's no point for it to exist.

Anyway, I'm sure this is by no means a special event in WoW, special for us, but on a global scale with this expansion coming to an end, guild disbands are happening everywhere. I'm not a big fan of subscribing to any hype, but I'll point to a recent post by a well known guild that disbanded. Not for any other reason, but because of the ultimate truth's in it, if you haven't read it before, please do so, there's just so much that applies here: http://www.dtguilds.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9981

The "Lost Chapter Legacy"

On a different light, I'd like to say that while we're now ending our time as a raiding guild, the legacy left behind by Lost Chapter is far from over. Over the past 3 years (which is a very good run for any guild) so many people have come and left and countless of them are still keeping in touch despite leaving years ago.
I can say without a doubt that this was a unique experience that has gone way beyond a mere past time entertainment game and watching people's reactions proves it.

I'd like to thank everybody over the years for allowing me to be a part of this experience and following me through all the game had to offer. I think it's yet another one of those times where words don't do justice.

One thing that needs to be mentioned, as a raiding guild we started out on top and ended on top, which is certainly an achievement to be proud of.

The server Earthen Ring has been our home for the past 3 years, sometimes they gave us a hard time and sometimes you saw how you inspired others to play the game better. There's a lot of mixed feelings about this, ultimately we were probably on the wrong server to begin with, but nevertheless, I'd like to thank Earthen Ring and its players for the good times that we've had here and hope our leave doesn't stop the server from continuing to thrive.

I'd also like to give a nod to all the other raid groups still on the server our main competitors Force of Will and Ad Noctum for so long, while things might not have been very pretty in the past, I can definitely say the last few months the years long rivalry (with FoW) almost turned to friendship in the end and that is something I'm grateful for. Good luck FoW, AN, UP, Syntax and anyone else I might have missed, I hope with LC gone you will carry the torch and not let this server go into obscurity.

While the guild is now disbanded, Lost Chapter as a community will still continue to exist through this website and forum. We intend to keep it running for the next few years/indefinitely, so there's always a place to keep in touch.

Additionally, our ventrilo server is still payed for (100 spots!) for a year and will be online for any of us, old and new members, to use.

Where are we now?

While many of us are either quitting or leaving the server, we've made a guild called Lost Chapter Legacy on Earthen Ring for those of us staying and not intending to look for a guild.

A few of us will be/or have migrated to Silvermoon and other servers, the majority of the officers (Splitarra, Aibell/Sprite) and myself (now called "Avituus" on Silvermoon, drop me a line if you're there... oh and if someone figures out which noob has my name on Silvermoon, let me know here on the website) have been invited by the raiding guild Inner Sanctum there.

Others will be going to Doomhammer, mostly invited to join Eternal Gathering there.

The future (?)

Nothing is ever written in stone. Keep in touch via forums/MSN/vent.

Maybe some of us will meet in other games (post something if you're organizing something!) or who knows if there will be a revival for WOTLK, there's still that option.
A few of us will be meeting at Blizzcon end of the month, that's still on, and if there's any RL meets planned -> Forums.

Anyway, stay in touch guys and don't take it too harshly. Be proud of the 3 year run we've had and the memories that will forever remain soulbound.

Good bye, but not farewell Smile

Undead Dragon redeadened (Felmyst down) Posted: Avitus @ Thu May 15, 2008 12:01 am
Took it's sweet time, for all the wrong reasons, but at least it's done now. Felmyst down (May 14th).

It's unfortunate when you take time and effort to build something good that gets handicapped from rolling at full speed due to all the sticks being thrown its path, not because what you have is bad, but because random unaccountable elements (quits due to RL and transfers)

For those of us who've been raiding for a long time, I'm sure it's nothing new to you how people tend to do silly things like that right at the end of an expansion (Naxx, now Sunwell). For some inexplicable reason, when the end is neigh, some tend to run and go the pikey way instead of bringing it home.

Anyway, though it's sad to have some people not with us anymore, drama aside, a kill is a kill, even if it's late, we endure Wink

It should be out of the guild sytem now with all the recent restructuring and refilling (to replace all the gaps) and with that behind us, there's only progression to look forward to!

Lootzors: , , ,

Grats Schwen, Xihiro, Velona and Ioana!

Seems yesterday the guild turned 3!

Definitely a milestone/achievement and a testament of endurance, 3 years is a very long time for a wow guild to endure Smile
